Canyon Music for clarinet and electronics (2000) was inspired by a white water rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. The raven, the camp thief, is heard in the brilliant, crisp opening of the movement titled Thieving Raven. The canyon wren, floating high among the cliffs, is the songbird of the canyon and its cry is heard in the descending triplet figure of the Weaving Wren. The ever-present sounds of the rushing river waters provided the inspiration for the electronic textures, the clarinet effects and the motoric rhythms of Heaving River.
The performer on these recordings is Scott Locke.
